There was great excitement at Pevensey on Friday 18th November as the residents gathered to welcome the Royal Union Financial Services team. This Durban based company, specialising in health care, financial planning, employee benefits and GAP cover had decided this year as part of their social responsibility budget they would treat the Pevensey residents to a night at the movies within the comfort of their own surroundings. So the big screen came to Pevensey!
Armed with a huge beautiful flatscreen TV, DVD player and 150 DVDs, the Royal Union team arrived at 10am. There was much hugging and kissing as everyone said hello, the Ushaka Day spent with Royal Union last year in Durban still fresh in everyone’s minds.
Gaileen Eaton, from Momentum Employee Benefits flew up from Cape Town especially for the occasion to hand over a real popcorn machine – just like in the movies! Plus extra-large size cups for cool drink, chocolates and Royal Union had gone the extra mile by putting up movie posters in the lounge for some extra ambience. All the residents were given their own movie tickets, which they had to present before the screening began. No one had forgotten about their tickets, waving them in the air proudly. Some of the residents even dressed up for the occasion, Charlie arrived in his suit looking very smart!
Pevensey really want to take this opportunity to that Royal Union and in particular, Lynne Strydom, a director at Royal Union, for doing so much to make life at Pevensey exciting and taking the time out to really engage with the residents. A few of the Royal Union staff left that afternoon with tears in their eyes. They had not expected to feel so moved by the residents’ reactions to the day’s events and were surprised at how close they felt as a company. “Team building without an obstacle course” was one of the comments.
The residents will now go to the movies every fortnight at Pevensey thanks to the year’s supply of popcorn kernels by Royal Union and their huge selection of DVDs. “We will never run out of movies!”
