We woke up on the 22nd of September and remembered it was our annual Fete day. Books, tables and White elephant staff had been transported to the Underberg school from Thursday the 20th, where Pevensey staff and committee members had teamed up to unpack and get all the stalls ready for this long-awaited day.
With all Residents on cloud nine, breakfast was quickly shoved out of the way and vehicles filled up with residents and staff to go to Underberg.
Then the clouds began to form. Rain clouds!!!
This posed a huge threat to the whole thing. We feared for the worst; Our fete would be washed away by the rain. We simply would not be drawing the anticipated numbers, and all our efforts would produce not much yield! Many minds where thrown in turmoil. Meanwhile, it started to rain. First a few showers, then the steady slow rain.
Then the real quality of the Underberg community shone through! As the rain continued its steady fall on Underberg Primary school, so did the people. They came through the rain. Visited the stalls, and by so doing, played a huge role in ensuring we recorded one of our highest takings to date!
We thank the Underberg community and all the parents and relatives of our Pevensey Residents for making this a day of showers of love and blessings. We are indeed surrounded by a community with a golden heart! The size and nature of commitment put in by the staff, residents, and management committee is admirable. And is always complimented in full measure by the inflow of support from our loving community.
